Sal Grosso--Chapters2and3
There aren't any grownups. We're alone here, on a stranded island with no grownups. The littleuns have some of the groups believing that there's a beastie. . .a snake somewhere out there in the creepers. My word isn't good enough for some of these kids, they need the grownups. I need the grownups. We tried to build a fire, make some smoke so that my dad or one of the Navy ships will see it. We failed, the fire didn't do anything except burn down half the forest. The little boy with the mulberry birthmark is nowhere to be found. He might have been in the forest when it went on fire. For now we just have to see if he shows up. Some of the boys have been trying to make shelters out of the trees and leaves. They might not hold, but they'll have to do. All Jack can think about is meat and pigs. His boys are trying to make smoke and he obsesses over meat. We have to survive.
